A Rustic Outdoor Wedding Near Washington DC Brings Fantasy to Life

What kind of wedding do you envision for yourself?  Do you want the fantasy, storybook wedding? Something elegant and refined?  Or maybe you envision creating the perfect rustic outdoor wedding near Washington DC?

Whatever image you have in your mind’s eye about your special day, you know how much planning goes into it.  After all, you want everything, down to the smallest detail, to be perfect, and we certainly can’t say we blame you.

Unfortunately, finding the perfect venue can be one of the trickiest parts of the whole equation, and if the venue isn’t perfect, the rest of the day will just feel strangely off kilter.  If your fondest desire is to have a delightful rustic outdoor wedding near Washington DC, may we suggest Blue Valley?

Our lovely little winery is one of only a handful of family owned businesses of its kind in the state of Virginia.  Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Blue Valley was built on a portion of a much larger estate once owned by the fourth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John Marshall.  The region is not only steeped in history but offers unparalleled views and a storybook setting that you and your guests will remember for years to come.

Of course, setting alone isn’t enough to create the perfect rustic outdoor wedding near Washington DC.  The venue spaces have to be every bit the equal of the natural vistas on offer or it still won’t be quite the perfect day you envision.

That’s precisely why we’ve worked hard to develop a variety of unforgettable venue spaces that are perfect for just the kind of wedding you have in mind.  We have two delightfully rustic venue spaces on offer and several others besides. Here’s a quick overview:

The Barrel Room

Capacity: 120 guests

The largest of our two rustic spaces, the centerpiece of this room is, as the name suggests, the rows of French and American barrels where our wines sit aging gracefully, but the room offers a number of other stand-out features as well, including gorgeous chandeliers and hand carved stonework embroidering the walls.

You’ll feel like you’ve entered a medieval castle when you step into this space.  It’s not for everyone, but if you’re specifically envisioning a rustic outdoor wedding near Washington DC, then this room is an excellent accompaniment.

The Cave

Capacity: 40 guests

The cave is our smallest venue space and our most rustic.  It is a room that seems to exist in another place and time, adorned with hand laid stonework, farm tables, a small collection of wine barrels and candle-draped chandeliers.

It’s a magical space and ideal for small, intimate gatherings.  Again, if you’re not interested in a rustic wedding, this probably isn’t the space you’re looking for, but for the right person, it could be absolutely perfect.

If you’re planning for a larger wedding than either of these spaces will accommodate on their own, you could book both rooms, or one of our other venue spaces if you feel it’s a good fit with the image you have in your mind’s eye for your wedding.  We also recommend booking our bridal suite so you’ll have a delightful place to escape to as the final preparations for your special day are being made.

If you want your reception area to have a slightly less rustic aesthetic, we’ve got a number of other great options to consider, including:

The Traditions Room

Capacity: 80 guests

Graced with a number of windows which gives this space a bright, airy feel, the Traditions Room also offers direct access to our spacious veranda, which gives it a great indoor/outdoor feel that provides unforgettable views of the Blue Ridge Mountains from the veranda side, while offering a lovely view of our vineyard from the opposite side.  You may even catch sight of some of our farm animals as they meander across your field of view. A lovely room decorated in an understated traditional style that is a perfect space for medium-sized weddings with enough of a rustic feel that it still may well serve your purpose.

The Heritage Room

Capacity: 60 guests

The Heritage Room is slightly smaller than our Traditions room, which makes it a fantastic choice for a smaller rustic wedding.  The room features a stunning stone fireplace, beautiful chandeliers and skylights to give it an airy feel. The windows on one side offer an unforgettable view of the Blue Ridge Mountains while the other offers a view of the vineyard itself.

Even better, this space has direct access to our Sunset Terrace so your guests can move the festivities outdoors if they’d like to and the weather permits.  A wonderful, cozier space that provides a nice contrast to some of our more expansive rooms.

The descriptions above are helpful, of course, but there’s just no substitute for touring these spaces firsthand to make sure they’re exactly what you want.  If this article has piqued your interest, we invite you to gather your friends and come spend the day with us enjoying a wine tasting, exploring the grounds and checking out our various venue options for yourself.

If you’d like some musical accompaniment while you’re here, be sure to check our event calendar before scheduling your trip as we regularly host local and regional musicians.

Although we are open during most holidays, please note that we are closed on both Christmas and New Year’s Day.  If you have any questions prior to scheduling your trip to come spend the day with us, don’t hesitate to give us a call.  We’re looking forward to speaking with and seeing you.
