Ready to Become a Virginia Wine Aficionado?

Do you consider yourself to be a wine aficionado?  Do you know someone who is? If you answered yes to either of those questions and you don’t yet have many Virginia wine vintages in your collection, we cordially invite you to join us at Blue Valley for a wine tasting.

Haven’t heard of Blue Valley?  Our lovely little winery is slightly off the beaten path, tucked away in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains, which makes a trip out to see us delightful in more ways than one.  This is one of the most beautiful parts of the country and you’ll be treated to breathtaking natural beauty as you tour the grounds.

Inside, of course, you’ll find our main tasting room and a wide range of award-winning Virginia wine vintages to sample.  Although written descriptions are certainly no substitute for an actual tasting, we’ll try to whet your appetite by describing some of the vintages you’ll find on offer.  Here’s a cross section:

2014 Chardonnay

Awards:

  • Silver Medal – San Francisco International Wine Competition
  • Bronze Medal – American Wine Society
  • Silver Medal – Finger Lakes International Wine Competition

This fine Virginia wine has a medium body and presents notes of orchard fruit with aromas of butterscotch and French oak.

2014 Reserve Chardonnay

Awards:

  • Double Gold – American Wine Society
  • Silver Medal – Finger Lakes International Wine Competition

This Chardonnay is wonderfully balanced and has been aged in stainless-steel and new French oak.  It presents nuances of green pear and green apple and will delight your palate.  

2014 Heritage

Awards:

  • Silver Medal – Finger Lakes International Wine Competition
  • Silver Medal – San Francisco International Wine Competition

A delightful blend composed of 67% Chardonnay, 22% Sauvignon Blanc, 6% Pinot Gris, and 5% Viognier, it will please your palate with its variety of citrus and orchard fruit flavors.

2015 Celebration Red Blend

Awards:

  • Gold Medal – American Wine Society
  • Silver Medal – New York Wine & Spirits Competition
  • Silver Medal – INDY International Wine Competition

Our 2015 Celebration Red is a blend of 60.1% Merlot, 35% Cab Franc, and 4.9% Petit Verdot.  It is a very bright ruby red with crisp acidity. It’s medium bodied with a tannin structure, featuring flavors of plumb, violet and both red and black berries.

2015 Remembrance

This wonderful vintage is made from a blend of estate grown Chambourcin (75%) combined with Vidal Blanc (25%) with 2.4% residual sugar.  It features opening flavors of blueberry, raspberry and a hint of oak. If served chilled, it will enhance the acidity and bring out hints of citrus and crab apple flavors.

A superbly balanced wine with hints of both melon and green apple.  Crisp and delightful!

2016 Tradition Red Blend

Awards:

  • Silver Medal – INDY International Wine Competition
  • Bronze Medal – American Wine Society

This is a blend comprised of 85% Merlot and 15% Estate Cabernet Franc.  It features flavors of red and black cherry with notes of smooth oak and black pepper.  The contrast is delightful and is sure to please.

2017 Memories

Awards:

  • Gold Medal – San Francisco International Wine Competition
  • Bronze Medal – Finger Lakes International Wine Competition

This is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier with 1.4% residual sugar.  It presents aromas of melon and honeysuckle and delights the palate with a sweet, crisp, well-rounded body.

2018 Estate Viognier

Awards:

  • Silver Medal – Finger Lakes Wine Competition

This is a bright, vibrant Virginia wine of medium intensity with the taste and fragrance of honeysuckle and rose petals and a mango finish.

2018 Estate Rose

Awards:

  • Silver Medal – INDY International Wine Competition
  • Silver Medal – San Francisco Wine Competition

Our 2018 Estate Rose presents with aromas of pomegranate, white pepper and watermelon.  It is a veritable carnival of flavors and sure to please.

2018 Estate Chambourcin Rose

Awards:

  • Bronze Medal – American Wine Society

With aromas of wet bluestone, red cherry and pomegranate and a candied fruit flavor, this rose is simply unforgettable.

If any of the selections above have piqued your interest, gather a few of your friends and begin planning your trip today.  We’re open most holidays, but please note that we are closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day. Our hours of operation vary slightly between peak season and the winter season, and are as follows:

Peak Season Hours of Operation (April through November)

Monday through Thursday: 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Friday through Sunday:  11:00 AM to 7:00 PM

Winter Season Hours of Operation (December through March)

Monday through Thursday:  11:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Friday through Sunday: 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Terry Kaye, Owner and Lead Event Consultant, has been in the event planning sector since 2000 and has over 18 years of hands-on industry experience.
